What I love so much about this particular recipe; It has half the butter or fat than the average chocolate chip cookies recipe. It also uses all brown sugar and no white. This gives the cookie more of a caramel flavor. I think the cookies taste even better the second day. They also freeze really well.
So there you have it...I'm divulging one of my secret recipes. I hope you enjoy the cookies as much as we do.

Glad you shared. I love chocolate chip cookies and can't wait to try this recipe.
I'm a friend of Gina Tyrrell (newly Allred - I think I saw you at her wedding?) and she passed along some of your recipes to me. I just tried these and had to say -- as a chocolate chip cookie connossieur -- this recipe is now among my top 5. Really spectacular. Thanks for choosing to share.
Monica Merced Rich is one of the best cooks/bakers I have ever met in my long and good-eating life. Her praise is--yeah. It's huge.
Mine is less huge (I'm not a great cookie maker), BUT I made these last night (and with 100% wheat flour--I didn't have any white--but I added walnuts to get rid of them and used dark brown sugar), and they were the best cookies I have ever, ever made. Ever.
My roommate said: "These are the perfect combination of chunky and soft."
Today I'm going to bake with the second-day dough. It's going to be a symphony of toffee flavors. You have changed the life of me and my posterity.
Monica, I'm so glad that Gina passed on my blog to you. I just love Gina! I'm also glad you liked the cookies!
Just made these. Very good! i forgot to add the salt till the first batch was already in the oven. Oops! But they didn't taste bad at all! Will make again!!! Thanks!

I saw this recipe a long time ago and bookmarked it to try someday. I don't make cookies very often bc they never turn out very well, but I wanted to surprise my husband and a couple of house guests this afternoon and made the cookies. They were wonderful! I was so surprised when I turned on the oven light to find them nice and plump instead of all flat and gross like my cookies normally turn out. Thanks for the great recipe!
